You don’t need to be a writer to publish content for your company?

So says this article in USA Today. Well, it depends. No, you definitely don’t need to be a writer to regularly publish content for your company. You can publish videos. You can also publish animation and images. Even short posts on social media platforms don’t require you to be a proficient writer.

What type of content you publish depends on your content marketing strategy.

But what about longer blog posts, web pages and articles?

Again, I never try to convince my prospective clients that they need a writer to publish compelling content on their websites and blogs. It’s up to them. They must see some value when they hire me.

I showcase my abilities as an experienced writer, but I don’t go beyond that. After that, they can decide whether they need a professional writer or not.

There are plenty of online tools that help you write well. There are some excellent grammar checkers. Even contemporary word processors like MS Word and Google Docs do a pretty good job of helping you write without spelling and grammar mistakes.

So, in that regard, if your concern is only writing without spelling and grammar mistakes, you are sufficiently equipped by software.

Writing, though, is different. It is not just about correctly writing words and sentences. It’s about using words and sentences to make an impact.

That’s where you often need a trained and experienced writer.

Content Writing Update – January 15, 2020

I just noticed that the last content writing update that I posted was on December 28, 2019.

Been busy with work.

In one of my updates I had mentioned that I’m writing content for a university website.

Lots of pages need to be added to the university website, so it is going to take a while.

A couple of clients vanished after initial interaction about their content writing requirement.

Precisely this is the reason I take an advance: then there is a commitment from both sides and I also know that the other person is serious about getting the work done.

Otherwise, I needlessly end up wasting my time.

An interesting project I’m doing is for a Dutch website.

In fact, it gave me an all new idea to offer my website rewriting and translation services in English.

Rewriting and translating existing text is actually fun and also easier compared to writing completely original content.

Although Google Translate is a good tool, it doesn’t exactly convey the needed emotion.

So, no matter in which language the content is written on the website, first I use Google Translate to understand what it is conveying, and then I rewrite it in my own style and my own language.

Also embarking upon a project of rewriting an e-book.

It’s already written in English. I need to make it sound better. Fun.

I have also started publishing my newsletter with some regularity.

If you have subscribed, you must have noticed you are getting more updates these days.

That’s it for today.

Content Writing Update – December 28, 2019

Due to the ongoing CAA (Citizen Amendment Act) protests by the Muslim community in India the Internet was blocked in our city, so nothing much happened yesterday.

Today I have been working on a speech for a multilevel marketing company owner in Punjab.

The speech is to be written in Hindi or rather, a mix of Hindi and English.

Yesterday I sent him a sample and he liked it, though, he said, his audience wouldn’t be able to understand pure Hindi, so some English words are to be added too.

Other than that, I’m also working on the website copy of a life coaching website but this work is not direct.

It has been outsourced to me by a web design company.

They haven’t paid yet, so, I have sent them a small sample.

These days I insist on getting some payment upfront.

Sometimes, clients give the work and then get busy in something else, or lose interest.

For them, since there has been no stake, sometimes even a follow-up is unnecessary.

I keep writing and they don’t respond.

This doesn’t happen with every client who changes his or her mind, but it has happened many times.

Advance payment shows that the client is serious about the work he or she is giving me.

In return, before he or she has to give an advance, I provide a 300-400-words sample which, I think, is fair enough.

I have also been optimizing my existing webpages.

Many of my main webpages are not optimized for search engines.

Although, I write SEO content by default, I hadn’t optimized the pages according to the SEOPressor criteria, the SEO WordPress plug-in that I use to analyze my webpages.

Have my rankings improved?

Well, I have hardly changed 5-6 webpages ever since I started on this project.

As I have mentioned in one of my blog posts, for almost 2 months I was bedridden and I was only focusing on client work, with no new content for my own website or blog.

This had a negative impact on my search engine rankings.

Hence, I’m also focusing on that.

Content Writing Update – December 24, 2019

I’m trying to land the content writing project for a university website.

I exchanged samples with them. I also sent them my previous work.

Once everything seemed to be settled, they asked for a sample, which I sent today.

It is being assessed.

I have been regularly writing for a Japanese real estate client and I have set aside some time to work on her blog.

Just as I was about to start, I wasn’t clear about the title so I wrote to her for more clarification.

If she responds on time, I may complete her blog post and send it today itself.

Other than that, the taxi service for which I have been writing for 4-5 months now needs another blog post. I will create an outline today before wrapping up.

I’m also planning to add another web page to the main website section: Press release writing services.

For a long time I haven’t published a smaller blog post – curated from another link. I may do that after publishing the press release web page.

Content Writing Update – December 20, 2019

From today onwards I will be maintaining an online journal of the various content writing assignments I’m working on these days.

Content writing update – December 20, 2019

How elaborate and how concise these updates are will depend on how much I have to write.

Today I wrote a small write-up for a technology client about the emerging content marketing trends for 2020.

The client is not necessarily  a content marketing company; they mostly provide technology solutions like mobile app development, Blockchain development and web design, and as an add-on, they also provide digital marketing services of which, content marketing is a part.

Aside from this, I’m doing some research work for a UK-based client who imparts coding training to school kids.

Their main aim is to change technology consumers into technology creators.

Instead of always playing games and using other apps, the kids should learn how these games are programmed and developed.

There is a university website and negotiating for and I hope I will start writing content for it in the coming couple of days.

I need to start writing copy of a white paper on how AI is helping people with disabilities.

I have received the outline from the client.

That’s it for today.
