But does this suffice? No. The SEO writer doesn’t only have to satisfy the search engines. The SEO writer should also make sense to the readers, the human readers. The SEO content is written in such a manner that it should use the search terms enough times, but not more, and not less. Take for instance this article. The phrase SEO writer appears again and again, but unless your attention is specifically brought to it, you don’t realize that the phrase is being used again and again. No matter what people say, I’ve personally observed that you can get a higher ranking by writing your text in a certain manner.

When you write your text so that it not only sounds natural, but also caters to the whims and fancies of the search engines so that they rank that page higher, it becomes SEO text.

I’m not saying you have to be manipulative or you should create spammy text (needlessly stuffing your web page with your keywords) just to rank high — you may rank high by doing this for a few weeks, but then you may get blacklisted too.

This is because the search engines want to provide quality text to their users, and what’s the use of visiting a web page that is full of keyword gobbledygook?

But you do need to use the keywords and you do need to use them enough times without sounding silly.

You write your text in such a manner that your keyword and its parts are scattered all over the web page and your human readers find it compelling, and appealing to read.

You use your keywords at strategic locations, within strategic tags.

They don’t have to be at the same place.

Many people mistakenly believe that there is different text for attracting people from search engines and then actually convincing them into buying from you.

If the Google user finds your link on the SERPs, clicks the link, goes to your website and then immediately comes back to Google and carries on the same search, it sends indications to Google that the user did not find the information she was looking for.

When she found your information on the SERPs, she must have used a search term or a query and your link showed up.

Since she did not find relevant information on your website, Google down ranks you for that particular search term or query. As the cycle goes on, your rankings go on deteriorating.

It’s been now more than 16 years (it’s 2020 now) since I’ve been writing content for various websites, and I still feel most webmasters do not consider content as important as the layout of the website.

It’s evident from the way they want to pay measly for the content writing services, and sometimes don’t even deem it fit to pay even if the content writer has delivered the work.

This reminds me of the days when people used to have websites just for the heck of it — “it’s a silly thing, but my client abroad wants to see it,” a client told me once about his need to have a website for his export company.

Content writing is at its nascent state. Especially in India where entrepreneurs and business owners are grudgingly accepting that they cannot do without a professional content writer.

The situation is not as daunting as it was a few years ago.

You already know it is important that pages having good content link back to your main page.

The search engines think, and rightly so, that if pages having good content link back to your website, then your website must be relevant.

Also, if your page has some useful information, other webmasters too put that page’s link on their websites.

Soon you have this massive interlinked network.

In the end I would say, it’s not about having lots of content, it’s about having relevant content.

If you have relevant, optimized and well-meaning textual content; your visitors read it, the search engines find it, and the webmasters link to it.

If the content is not good, your visitors don’t read it, the search engines can’t make out what you’re trying to say and hence ignore it, and the webmasters don’t link back to it.
